Villa Candia started out as a dream, and over the years has become much more than we ever hoped.
When we came to Italy in 2004, we had a vague idea that we might want to find a house to buy and refurbish. After several trips to Umbria, we found our dream house - but it was uninhabitable. No roof, no floors, no windows, crumbling walls, completely overgrown with vines. There was even a 50-year-old fig tree growing inside the house!
With the help of our geometra (a unique Italian concept - part architect, part general contractor, 100% committed to retaining the old-world look and old-world craftsmanship), we began the journey that would restore - and enhance - the original manor house.
